Favorite Books Before Booktube | #T5W

This week on my booktube channel, I did the Top 5 Wednesday video “Favorite Books Before You Joined _____”, meaning your favorite books before you joined the online community. I titled my video as “before booktube” simply because that was the platform I was posting the video on. But as I explain in the video, these were my favorite book series that I read post-high school but before I started blogging in December of 2014. Check out the video on my channel, or scroll down to see the my answers!

Top 5 Wednesday is a group on GoodReads and is currently hosted by the booktube channel Sam @ Thoughts on Tomes.

1:40 – Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan

3:10 – Chronicles of Chrestomanci by Diana Wynne Jones

4:20 – Farseer Trilogy by Robin Hobb

4:45 – Temeraire Series by Naomi Novik

5:50 – Bartimaeus Sequence by Jonathan Stroud

7:00 – Bloopers

What were your favorites books before you joined the online book community?

I’m just now finishing the Chronicles of Chrestomanci series — so good! I’m also a huge fan of the Farseer Trilogy. Great picks!

Chronicles of Chrestomanci is a bit older, so it doesn’t surprise me that it isn’t talked about a bunch. Diana Wynne Jones has amazing gems of novels, though (she’s one of my favorite fantasy authors). I just read The Power of Three by her. If you can find a copy, definitely check it out.

The Liveship Traders trilogy by Robin Hobb has so far been my favorite by her, but I need to check out the new stuff she’s been putting out. I feel like I’m still stuck in the 90s sometimes, when it comes to fantasy. :p

I forgot that you’ve already read Assassin’s Apprentice! How far did you get in the series? (You might have mentioned it in the video, but as you know, I struggle with videos. 🙈) I just listened to His Majesty’s Dragon on audio, but I found it really boring! Does it get better, or do you think the audiobook was to blame?

I read the trilogy but haven’t read any other books by her! It’s been 5 or 6 years since I read them though so my memories are pretty vague. And no worries about the video thing – that’s why I also put the book covers in the post and I don’t mind questions.

It’s been even longer since I’ve read His Majesty’s Dragon – I’m bummed to hear it was boring for you haha. I have no idea if it gets better, but maybe give print a shot? Sorry, not much help there.
